Senegal Beats England 3-1 to Become First African Team to Defeat Them

Senegal beats England 3-1 in a thrilling friendly match at City Ground, ending the Three Lions’ unbeaten run under coach Thomas Tuchel. The victory also made history, as Senegal became the first African team to defeat the England men’s national football team.

England made a strong start, with captain Harry Kane scoring in the 7th minute. The goal came after Anthony Gordon’s shot was blocked poorly by Edouard Mendy, allowing Kane to easily tap in his 73rd international goal. However, England could not maintain their lead.

Just five minutes before halftime, Ismaïla Sarr capitalized on a mistake by Kyle Walker and brought Senegal level. It was the first goal England had conceded in four matches under Tuchel. In the second half, Senegal continued to press high and expose England’s defensive weaknesses.

Habib Diarra gave Senegal a 2-1 lead in the 62nd minute with a composed finish. England created some chances to level the score, but Edouard Mendy stood tall, making crucial saves against Morgan Gibbs-White and Bukayo Saka. Jude Bellingham appeared to score a late equalizer, but the goal was disallowed by VAR.

In injury time, Curtis Jones lost the ball under pressure, and substitute Cheikh Sabaly made no mistake, securing Senegal’s 3-1 win and a historic night.

England had remained unbeaten in their previous 21 matches against African teams, with 15 wins and 6 draws. But that streak ended in this match as Senegal beats England, making a powerful statement and etching their name in football history.
