Nepal will play its third match of the SAFF U-20 Women’s Championship today against Sri Lanka in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The match is set to kick off at 6:45 PM Nepali time at the Bashundhara Kings Arena.
Nepal started the tournament strong, defeating Bhutan 6-1 in their opening match. However, they narrowly lost 3-2 to hosts Bangladesh in their second outing. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka has struggled throughout the tournament, suffering a heavy 9-1 loss to Bangladesh and a 5-0 defeat to Bhutan.
With Bangladesh already holding two wins and 6 points, Nepal must win today’s game and improve their goal difference to stay in the hunt for the SAFF U-20 Women’s Championship title. Nepal currently sits second in the table with 3 points and a better goal difference than Bhutan.
The tournament follows a double round-robin format featuring four teams. The team with the highest points at the end of all matches will be crowned champion.
Nepal still has a strong chance if they win their remaining matches convincingly and maintain a superior goal difference in this edition of the SAFF U-20 Women’s Championship.
