Nepal vs Thailand: The Nepal women’s national football team is set to face Thailand today in its first-ever international friendly match against the Southeast Asian nation. This match is a crucial part of Nepal’s preparation for the upcoming AFC Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers.
The match will kick off at 4:45 PM Nepali time at Thammasat Stadium in Pathum Thani, Thailand. Although this is their first friendly meeting, Nepal and Thailand have faced each other twice before during the AFC Women’s Asian Cup. In both encounters, held in 1996 and 1999, Nepal lost 5-0 during the group stages.
Nepal traveled to Thailand last week for a two-match series, including a closed-door match played last Friday. Today’s friendly match gives Nepal another opportunity to test its squad, especially against a team like Thailand, which has previously competed in the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
This series is important for Nepal as they gear up for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers, scheduled to begin on June 29 in Uzbekistan. Nepal is in Group F, alongside hosts Uzbekistan, Laos, and Sri Lanka. Only the team that tops the group will qualify for the 2026 Women’s Asian Cup, set to be held in Australia.
The Nepal women’s national football team hopes that the experience gained from playing a higher-ranked side will help build momentum and confidence ahead of their crucial qualifier fixtures later this month.
