Kylian Mbappe has been left out of Real Madrid’s squad for their final FIFA Club World Cup group match against Red Bull Salzburg, even though he has returned to training. The game in Philadelphia will decide which team moves on to the last 16 of the tournament.

Mbappe missed Real Madrid’s first two games at the FIFA Club World Cup after suffering from gastroenteritis. He was hospitalized last Thursday for tests and treatment but was released soon after. On Wednesday, Mbappe rejoined training with the team in Florida.

Despite head coach Xabi Alonso saying that Kylian Mbappe was “doing better” after their 3-1 win over Pachuca, the French forward was not included in the 23-player squad traveling to Philadelphia. The club shared images of Mbappe training but confirmed he will not feature in the match at Lincoln Financial Field.

Real Madrid currently have four points in Group H and need at least a draw to qualify for the Round of 16. A win against Salzburg would guarantee them the top spot in the group. If they advance, possible opponents include Manchester City or Juventus.

Since joining Real Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain last year, Kylian Mbappe has scored 43 goals in 56 appearances. His last match was for France on June 8, in a 2-0 win over Germany in the UEFA Nations League.
