Hong Kong vs Nepal: The Nepal national football team will play an international friendly match against Hong Kong today. The game is scheduled at Hong Kong National Stadium and will start at 5:45 PM Nepal time.
This marks Nepal’s first football match against Hong Kong in 37 years. According to the FIFA rankings, Hong Kong is placed 153rd, ahead of Nepal which holds the 175th spot.
The only previous encounter between Nepal and Hong Kong was in 1988 during the Asian Cup qualifiers held at Kathmandu’s Dashrath Rangashala, which ended in a goalless draw.
Both teams are using this friendly as preparation for the upcoming AFC Asian Cup qualifiers. Nepal, placed in Group F, will face Laos away on June 10. The match against Hong Kong is seen as an important warm-up for that crucial game.
Nepal’s head coach, Matt Ross, stated in Wednesday’s pre-match press conference that although Hong Kong is a strong side, Nepal will play with high morale and aim to win. He emphasized that this match is not only a friendly but also a key part of their preparation for the Laos game.
Team captain Kiran Chemjong showed respect for the opposition and promised a solid performance from Nepal.
