Nepal’s kabaddi star and captain Ghanshyam Roka Magar will continue playing for the defending champions Haryana Steelers in the 12th season of the world-famous Pro Kabaddi League.
Ghanshyam Retained Through Final Bid Match for Two More Years
Haryana Steelers retained Ghanshyam Roka Magar, a Category ‘C’ player, by spending ₹13 lakh via the Final Bid Match (FBM) card. This retention extends his contract with the team for another two years.
The Final Bid Match rule allows teams to bring back players they released by bidding a final amount. Previously, players could only be retained for one year through FBM, but this season the rule changed to allow retention for up to two years.
Ghanshyam Roka Magar Led Haryana to Championship Victory in Season 11
In the 11th season, Ghanshyam Roka Magar played a vital role as Haryana Steelers won the Pro Kabaddi title. Alongside him, other Nepali players like Ganesh Karki, Sushil Chunara, and Ramu Tamata were nominated for the auction.
Growing Popularity of Kabaddi in Nepal
Kabaddi is gaining huge popularity in Nepal. Recently, Nepal Kabaddi League (NKL) was held domestically, helping boost the sport’s profile. Both the Nepali men’s and women’s kabaddi teams have started winning international medals.
The women’s team has earned bronze medals in the 19th Asian Games and Asian Kabaddi Championship. Similarly, the men’s team won a silver medal at the Bangabandhu Kabaddi tournament in Bangladesh.
