Asian Games silver medalist karate player Arika Gurung and national women’s football team goalkeeper Anjana Rana Magar were honored with cash prizes in Madhyapur Thimi, Bhaktapur on Tuesday.
Arika, who has won a bronze in the Karate 1 Premier League, gold medals in the Thailand Open and US Open, and a silver in the Asian Championship, was honored along with football star Anjana by the Inner Wheel Club of Madhyapur Thimi. Both athletes received a cash prize of Rs 25,000 each.
They were awarded the “Dr. Sristee Outstanding Female Player Award” for their significant contributions to Nepali sports, according to the organizers.
Dr. Sristee Shrestha Prajapati, the founder of the club and Vice President of Inner Wheel District 350, presented the award. She expressed her pride in honoring women’s participation and achievements in sports and committed to continuing such recognitions in the future.
Both athletes thanked the organizers, saying that such recognitions from private institutions inspire them to stay dedicated and motivated to represent the country.
