Afghanistan’s well-known international cricket umpire, Bismillah Jan Shinwari, has passed away at the age of 41. The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) confirmed his death, stating that he had been unwell for a long time.
Born in 1984, Shinwari had officiated in 34 One Day Internationals (ODIs) and 26 T20 Internationals (T20Is) during his career. He was a respected member of Afghanistan’s elite umpiring panel.
In addition to international matches, Shinwari also umpired in 31 First-Class games, 51 List A matches, and 96 domestic T20 games. He was widely known for his dedication and service to Afghan cricket.
Shinwari also officiated in several international matches involving Nepal. Notably, he was an umpire in the first edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) cricket tournament held in Nepal.
The Afghanistan Cricket Board issued a condolence message saying, “We are deeply saddened and shocked. Bismillah Jan was a great servant of Afghan cricket. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and the entire Afghan cricket community.”
