Brazilian club Botafogo made a strong start in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 with a 2–1 win over American team Seattle Sounders. The game was part of Group B and took place early Monday morning.
Botafogo opened the scoring in the 17th minute when Jair Cunha headed in a goal from a corner kick. The lead was doubled just before halftime, as Igor Jesus found the net in the 44th minute to put the Brazilian team in control.
Seattle tried to respond in the second half and managed to reduce the deficit in the 73rd minute thanks to Cristian Roldan goal. The match grew more intense, and near the end, Seattle earned a penalty that could have leveled the game. However, Botafogo’s goalkeeper João Victor made a clutch save to deny them the equalizer.
