West Indies’ dynamic batter Nicholas Pooran has announced his retirement from international cricket at just 29 years old. Known as one of the world’s best T20 batters, Pooran is famous for his aggressive batting style.

Nicholas Pooran International Career Highlights

Nicholas Pooran from Trinidad played 61 One Day Internationals (ODIs) and 106 T20 Internationals (T20Is) for the West Indies. In ODIs, he scored 1,983 runs including 3 centuries and 11 half-centuries. In T20Is, he accumulated 2,275 runs with 13 half-centuries.

Pooran holds the record for the most T20I runs for West Indies, having appeared in more T20 matches than any other player from the team.

Focus Shifts to Franchise Leagues

Pooran recently played for the Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League (IPL). After skipping the T20 series against England to rest, he plans to focus on major franchise leagues like the Major League Cricket (MLC) in the USA and The Hundred league in England this summer.

Cricket West Indies Honors Pooran

Cricket West Indies expressed respect for Pooran’s achievements and thanked him for the exciting moments he gave to fans worldwide. The board also wished him the best for his future endeavors.

Young and Popular Exit

Unlike some recent retirements, such as South Africa’s Heinrich Klaasen who also prioritized franchise cricket, Pooran’s decision is considered more significant due to his youth and popularity.

Pooran last represented West Indies in a T20 match against Bangladesh in December 2024 and has not played any ODI since July 2023.
