Australia announces 16-member squad for T20I series vs West Indies

Australia has announced a 16-member squad for the upcoming five-match T20 series vs West Indies, starting on July 20, 2025, in Jamaica. The squad features a mix of experienced names and rising talents, with Mitchell Marsh set to lead the side. This series will act as an early indicator of Australia’s plans heading into the next T20 World Cup.

The selected squad includes Mitchell Marsh (captain), Sean Abbott, Cooper Connolly, Tim David, Ben Dwarshuis, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Aaron Hardie, Josh Hazlewood, Josh Inglis, Spencer Johnson, Matt Kuhnemann, Glenn Maxwell, Mitch Owen, Matthew Short, Adam Zampa. Among them, Mitch Owen has earned his maiden international call-up after an impressive Big Bash League season and a recent IPL stint with Punjab Kings, where he replaced Maxwell.

Australia appears to be focusing on strengthening its spin bowling. Along with senior spinner Adam Zampa, left-arm spinner Matt Kuhnemann has been included. The team’s spin attack is further boosted by the inclusion of Glenn Maxwell and Cooper Connolly, offering more flexibility in spin-friendly conditions.

Jake Fraser-McGurk has been left out of the squad after struggling with consistency. He will return to domestic and franchise cricket to work on his form. Marcus Stoinis is also absent from the lineup.

Key players Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Travis Head have been rested for this series. However, all three are expected to return for the T20 series against South Africa in August.

The much-anticipated T20 series vs West Indies begins on July 20 and will be a crucial stage for several players to secure their spot for the World Cup.
