Sabitra Bhandari Honored by Marsyangdi Rural Municipality

Nepal women’s national football team captain and forward, Sabitra Bhandari, also known as Samba, was honored by her hometown Marsyangdi Rural Municipality.

The special event took place today at Bhulbhule in Ward 8 of the municipality. Chairperson Arjun Gurung presented her with a traditional shawl as a mark of respect. He said the municipality aims to produce more talented athletes like Bhandari and support sports development.

Bhandari expressed happiness at being recognized in her own community. She said such honors inspire her to perform even better. In her honor, the area of Khudipul in Ward 9 has been named “Samba Chowk.”

Sabitra currently plays for Nepal’s national team and the Armed Police Force (APF) Club. Known for her strong presence in the forward line, she is one of Nepal’s most successful female footballers.

She has recently signed with Wellington Phoenix in New Zealand and will compete in Australia’s A-League Women for the next two seasons. Previously, she played for French club En Avant Guingamp.
