Max60 Caribbean League in Crisis as Players Protest Over Unpaid Salaries

The Max60 Caribbean League has plunged into controversy after several international stars, including David Warner, Shakib Al Hasan, Alex Hales, and Carlos Brathwaite, reportedly went unpaid, leading to match cancellations and chaos.

The league, called “Max-60 Caribbean,” was launched last year. However, its second season has been overshadowed by controversy. According to a Cricinfo report, most players had not received their payments even 30 days before the tournament began. This led to a players’ strike, causing five matches on Tuesday to be cancelled.

Organizers initially announced that the final would be held between Caribbean Tigers and Vegas Vikings, based on league standings. But the Instagram post was later deleted. On Wednesday, a new plan was shared a “Runner-up Playoff” between Grand Cayman Falcons and Vegas Vikings, followed by the trophy ceremony.

The global cricketers’ association has backed the players’ protest. Tom Moffat, CEO of the association, expressed disappointment over unpaid salaries, saying that players have fulfilled their duties honestly, while contracts are being openly violated.

“This is not a new issue,” said Moffat. “It’s another example of how even ICC-recognized tournaments are failing to protect players’ rights. Strong global leadership is needed to solve this.”

The Max-60 league is run by Dubai-based company BMP Sports, which is also linked to the Braves franchise in T10 leagues across Abu Dhabi, Zimbabwe, and Sri Lanka.
