Kathmandu Gurkhas have officially revealed their new identity ahead of the second edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL). With a revamped name, redesigned logo, and a renewed strategy, the team is all set to make a strong comeback in NPL 2025.
The new Kathmandu Gurkhas logo highlights the rich cultural heritage of the Kathmandu Valley, incorporating elements from Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, and Nuwakot. Formerly known as Kathmandu Gurkhas, the team has now rebranded itself as ‘Kathmandu Gorkhas’ across all social media platforms.
In the last season, Kathmandu Gurkhas finished in fifth place, missing out on the playoffs. However, CEO Suraj Singh Thakuri explained that the rebranding wasn’t just about results but about bringing a new vision to the franchise.
To lead the team’s fresh journey, the franchise has appointed Monty Desai as the new head coach. Known for bringing new perspectives to Nepali cricket, Additional support staff will be announced soon.
Marquee player Karan KC, who has been retained along with Bhim Sharki, Dipesh Prasad Kandel, Shahab Alam, Pratik Shrestha, and Rashid Khan shared his excitement, saying the team aims to win the title under Monty’s leadership.
Speaking at the launch event, Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) secretary Paras Khadka also shared that the TU Cricket Ground in Kirtipur may soon host night matches, depending on the completion of current upgrades.
The Gurkhas have teamed up with Royal Tulip Kathmandu in Gwarko as their official hospitality partner. This five-star hotel will provide all residential facilities to the players during the tournament.
In terms of sponsorship, the team has signed a major deal with WorldLink as the main sponsor. The WorldLink logo will be prominently displayed on the front of the Kathmandu Gurkhas jersey during the NPL matches. The agreement was signed by executive directors Anubhav Swar Sirohiya (Kathmandu Gurkhas) and Manoj Agrawal (WorldLink).
Additionally, Thunder Bolt Cricket Academy, located within the James School premises, will serve as the official training partner. The academy features modern infrastructure including floodlight facilities for evening practice.
