Liam Dawson Returns to England Test Team After 8 Years

Liam Dawson is set to make a comeback to England’s Test team after eight years. He will return to the squad for the fourth Test against India, which starts on Wednesday.

Dawson has been included in the team announced on Monday, replacing Shoaib Bashir, who was ruled out of the series after breaking his finger.

England made just one change to the team that secured a memorable victory at Lord’s. Dawson last played a Test match for England in 2017, and now returns to the longest format of the game after eight years.

The 35-year-old left-arm orthodox spinner made his Test debut against India in 2016 and has taken 7 wickets in 3 Tests. His strong performance in the ongoing County Championship season earned him a spot back in the national team.

After the Lord’s Test, Dawson was brought into the squad in place of Bashir, who had started the first three Tests as England’s frontline spinner. Unfortunately, Bashir injured his finger while fielding during the third Test.

India currently leads the five-match series 2-1.

England Playing XI:

Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes (Captain), Jamie Smith, Liam Dawson, Chris Woakes, Brydon Carse, Jofra Archer.
