Nepal registered another big win in the SAFF U-20 Women’s Championship by defeating Sri Lanka 7-0 in their second clash. The match, held on Thursday afternoon at the Bashundhara Sports Ground in Dhaka, saw a dominant display from Nepal, who scored four goals in the first half and added three more in the second.
The scoring spree began in the 15th minute when Purnima Rai tapped in the opening goal. Kusum Khatri doubled the lead in the 35th minute with a well-placed strike. Just before half-time, Sarita Nath scored from a free kick in the 43rd minute, and a deflected shot by Kusum in the 45th minute made it 4-0.
After the break, Birsana Chaudhary extended the lead with a penalty in the 67th minute. Samikshya Magar sealed the victory with two quick goals in the 74th and 78th minutes. Although Nepal earned another penalty in the 90th minute, Birsana’s attempt was saved by the Sri Lankan goalkeeper.
Nepal also won their first match against Sri Lanka with an identical 7-0 scoreline. With this latest win, Nepal now sits at the top of the standings with 9 points from 4 matches in the SAFF U-20 Women’s Championship. Bangladesh, who have played one match less, also have 9 points but trail on goal difference. They will face Bhutan later in the evening.
Nepal’s outstanding performance keeps their hopes alive for the championship title, with solid momentum heading into the next matches.
