Spanish club Barcelona has given their young star Lamine Yamal the historic No. 10 jersey. This jersey was worn by Argentine legend Lionel Messi from 2008 to 2021.
Yamal, who recently celebrated his 18th birthday, will wear the No. 10 jersey starting from the upcoming season. After Messi left Barcelona, the No. 10 jersey was worn by Ansu Fati, who is currently on loan at AS Monaco.
Speaking about the new jersey, Yamal said, “Since childhood, my dream was to play for Barcelona’s first team and wear the No. 10. Messi created his own path; now I will create mine.”
The No. 10 jersey has also been worn by famous players like Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, Romário, and Diego Maradona.
Yamal joined Barcelona in the 2022-23 season. He played just one match in his first season but has since played 103 games and scored 25 goals.
He has won two La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey, and one Supercopa with the club. Recently, Barcelona renewed his contract until 2031.
Yamal’s next goal is to win the Champions League with Barcelona.
