Luka Modrić has officially joined AC Milan on a free transfer after spending 13 remarkable years at Real Madrid. The 39-year-old Croatian midfielder signed a contract with the Italian giants until June 2026, with an option to extend for one more year.

Modrić had already announced in May, after the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, that he would be leaving Real Madrid. Speaking after the deal, he said, “I’m very happy to start a new chapter in my playing career.”

AC Milan’s newly appointed head coach Massimiliano Allegri, now in his second spell at the club, confirmed Modrić’s arrival earlier this month and praised him as an “extraordinary player.”

Luka Modrić joined Real Madrid in 2012 from Tottenham Hotspur. Over 13 seasons, he won an incredible 28 titles with the Spanish club, including 6 UEFA Champions League trophies and 4 La Liga titles. He became the most decorated player in Real Madrid’s history.

In total, he made 597 appearances for the club and scored 43 goals. His final game for Real Madrid was a 4–0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals of the FIFA Club World Cup.

The 2018 Ballon d’Or winner is also eyeing participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
