South African cricketer Aiden Markram has been awarded the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for June 2025. His remarkable performance in the World Test Championship final against Australia at Lord’s earned him this prestigious honor.
Markram, 30, played a crucial role by scoring 136 runs and taking two key wickets in the match. His outstanding contribution helped South Africa secure their first senior ICC trophy in 27 years.
In an interview with the ICC after receiving the award, Markram said, “It is a huge honor to receive this award. I am proud to have helped South Africa win the WTC for the first time. Winning the final at Lord’s is a historic moment for South African cricket, one we will all remember forever.”
Although Markram was dismissed for a duck in the first innings, he made a significant impact with the ball, including the important wicket of Australia’s set batter Steve Smith. In the second innings, he bounced back strongly with the bat.
When South Africa was trailing by 74 runs after the first innings and Australia’s last-wicket pair added 59 runs, Markram took the final wicket by dismissing Josh Hazlewood. Then, with the bat, he played an important innings of 136 runs to lead South Africa to victory.
Markram also praised his teammates for their valuable contributions. This win marked South Africa’s first ICC World Test Championship title.
