Luka Modrić Joins AC Milan After FIFA Club World Cup

Luka Modrić, the legendary Croatian midfielder, is officially set to join AC Milan after the conclusion of the Club World Cup currently taking place in the United States. AC Milan’s returning head coach Massimiliano Allegri confirmed the move in his first press conference, stating, “Luka Modrić will arrive in Milan this August. He is an extraordinary player.”

The 39-year-old captain of Croatia had already announced that he would leave Real Madrid following the Club World Cup. This decision marks the end of a remarkable 13-year journey with the Spanish giants, during which he became one of the club’s most iconic figures.

Since arriving from Tottenham Hotspur in 2012, Modrić has won an incredible 28 major titles with Real Madrid. His trophy haul includes six UEFA Champions League titles and four La Liga championships. In 2018, he was awarded the prestigious Ballon d’Or, becoming the first player to break the decade-long dominance of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Modrić has featured in five FIFA Club World Cup matches for Real Madrid this season, all as a substitute. One of those appearances was in a thrilling 3-2 victory over Borussia Dortmund. Real Madrid is set to face Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the upcoming semifinal of the tournament.

The move to AC Milan is widely seen as part of Modrić’s plan to stay at the top level of the game as he eyes a potential spot in Croatia’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. His decision reflects his desire to continue playing high-level football in Europe and extend his storied career even further.
