The Nepal Volleyball Association (NVA) celebrated World Volleyball Day with great enthusiasm on Monday in Kathmandu. The event was held at the New Diamond Youth Sports Club court in Naikap, where various activities took place to mark the occasion.
More than 200 participants gathered to play volleyball together. Teams from the Nepal Volleyball Association, National Sports Council, and Nepal Sports Journalists Forum took part in friendly matches, creating a lively and joyful atmosphere.
Key figures like NSC Member Secretary Tanka Lal Ghising, officials from the volleyball association, and veteran players Resham Gurung and Durga Kumar Rai were present. Young players from different schools in Chandragiri Municipality also joined the celebrations.
World Volleyball Day is a new global event started by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) this year. According to NVA General Secretary Roshan Shrestha, the day was celebrated at the same time in all 222 member countries of FIVB, including Nepal.
Volleyball is Nepal’s national sport and has become popular across the country. With more places to play volleyball and the recent success of the women’s volleyball team, many young players are getting interested in the sport.
FIVB chose July 7 to celebrate World Volleyball Day because it marks the first public demonstration of volleyball by William G. Morgan in 1896. Morgan is known as the father of volleyball.
FIVB encourages people everywhere to celebrate by playing volleyball and joining the global volleyball community. The large turnout in Nepal shows how much the sport is growing and bringing people together.
