Nepal bagged an impressive 36 medals, including 21 golds, at the 9th South Asian Karate Championship held in Sri Lanka. Despite the outstanding performance, the Nepali team finished in second place overall, just behind India.

While Nepal won 21 gold, 9 silver, and 6 bronze medals, India edged ahead with a total of 49 medals—23 gold, 24 silver, and 2 bronze—securing the top spot on the leaderboard.

Nepal had previously dominated the 7th and 8th editions of the South Asian Karate Championship, finishing first both times. However, this year, the team had to settle for second place despite putting up a strong fight.

Among the highlights for Nepal was the performance of star athlete Arika Gurung, who, along with her teammates, helped secure multiple gold medals in various categories. Their dedication and determination were key in Nepal’s strong medal haul at the South Asian Karate Championship.

Even though Nepal didn’t top the chart this time, the results from the South Asian Karate Championship highlight the country’s consistent excellence and growing strength in martial arts.
