Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham has confirmed he will have surgery on a long-term shoulder injury once the Club World Cup finishes. The England international has been playing with pain after dislocating his shoulder in a La Liga game back in November 2023. Since then, he has worn a brace under his shirt to protect the injury. Real Madrid wants to win the FIFA Club World Cup, so the operation is scheduled a few days after the final match. This means Bellingham may miss the start of the new La Liga season as he recovers from surgery.
Bellingham told DAZN after Real Madrid 3-1 win over Pachuca in Charlotte, “I’m fed up with the brace. It keeps moving and other players tug on it, which is frustrating.” He added, “I have surgery planned right after the tournament, and I’m happy to finally get it fixed. The physio and doctor here have helped me a lot, but I want to be free from the brace.”
The recovery time for the surgery could take up to 12 weeks. This means Bellingham might miss Madrid’s early league games and England’s World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Serbia in September.
Jude Bellingham scored in the win against Pachuca, just one day after his younger brother, Jobe Bellingham, scored for Borussia Dortmund. Jude joked about their sibling rivalry, saying, “Everyone was telling me he’s better than me, so I had to do something today. We’re now one-one, and we’ll see who comes out on top in the tournament.”
